Coding Day @ Heritage

On Thursday, April 27th, the Central Region’s Vista Zone of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District hosted a Coding Day here at Heritage Collegiate.

Students from Anthony Paddon Elementary, Riverside Elementary and Swift Current Academy, as well as, students from our own school participated in the event.

Students began the day by assembling a Raspberry Pi computer.  They then used this computer to complete coding activities using a program called Scratch.

As well, students spent time programming a miniature robot called Ozobot using color codes.

The final activity of the day was to program a series of sensors that were connected to the computer using micro controller board called Arduino using S4A (Scratch for Arduino) .

At the end of the day, each school was given their own kit, which included a Raspberry Pi computer, an Ozobot, Arduino micro controller boards and a sensor kit, to continue to code at their schools.

A big thank you goes out to Mr. Corey Downey, Program Itinerant Central Region, Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, for making this Coding Day possible. Thank you for a fantastic job and a fun day.
